Meteo Stone Weather Blog

Some news

Posted in features, news by admin on the May 8th, 2008

Since last post we’ve done a lot of features, but I try to explain what we do now.

We try to make redesign of MeteoStone and make it more useful. Also, we made some tests for getting
METAR data from airports.

We also planning to increase number of banners for weather station owners, so if you want to get banner
with your style or picture, just drop us a line.

That’s all that I can say now, but it’s not all in general :)

Site news: Developer API and Messaging

Posted in developer api, news by admin on the September 9th, 2007

Hi!

We have updated the site. The main feature is the developer API. Information about interfaces you can find at meteostone.com/api

Also, we have opened discussing groups for MeteoStone API at http://groups.google.com/group/meteostone-dev , so you are welcome.

But it’s not all :) We make notifications about messages around your locations. If anybody wrote messages not far than 10 (for both, latitude & longtitude) from your location, you will see a little panel at locations list panel.

You can set messages “readed” by clicking on (x) icon, so you will not see this panel while geting new message. Or, you can see a new messages by clicking on (<-) icon, so you will redirect on messages panel and will see messages around corresponding location. Messages became “old” if it wrote older than day ago or if you mark them read.

We hope to see your feedback about it. Is it useful?

One little news

Posted in qa, news by admin on the September 4th, 2007

Hi! We have made some ui changes. I hope, weather map will be more usable after it. If you didn’t knew what you can move\zoom map and see messages from locations of map viewport in Messages “tab”, now you know it.

I saw here several messages without text, so I have a question: Is anybody have problems with messaging on site?

ps. I will glad to get any feedback about MeteoStone. Just drop a line.

Why the project has name MeteoStone?

gse_multipart39055.jpgDid you see “Gary’s weather forecasting stone” equipment? :)

Our site is web2.0 analog of it. I know, that I can define current temperature with presision of about 10C, but I think, what Gary’s stone is more powerful instrument. You know about all weather condtions around and you can say anybody about it without use of special therms like humidity and complex data like temperature\pressure\etc.

Therefore, we, as example, use an icons for user interface on site instead the big table with hand-entered fields. But I hope, that this model of weather site is more powerful, because current meteorological institutes, have only limit number weather stations. And I suppose, that weather data from users (and not only) can bring more good result in Web2.0 epoch, that data from limit number of weather organization stations.
